,Perth’s finest décor duo, WedStyle, shares their experience of planning this lavish affair

Weddings are one of the most important life events in Indian culture. Both the bride and groom’s side of the family love to organise and celebrate a marriage with a number of big, colourful and joyful events.

When we first met Arohi & Arvin, we clicked right away, Arvin in particular has a very cheeky sense of humour, which made working with them memorable and a lot of fun. We were very excited to be a part of their journey and to assist with the styling of both their wedding ceremony and reception.

It is usual for families to be largely involved when organizing and styling Indian weddings. We usually get to meet the whole family throughout the planning process. During our first meeting, we quickly learned that the wedding ceremony is very symbolic, especially for the bride’s family. This made our role in the wedding ceremony particularly significant, and it was important to us that we got the ceremony set-up absolutely perfect for Arvin, Arohi and their families.

As Arohi was based in Perth and Arvin in Sydney, we had some geographical barriers to overcome, so clear and open communication with everyone was essential. For the ceremony, Arvin & Arohi had prepared pamphlets which contained a detailed explanation behind the rituals performed as part of a Hindu wedding, and their significance. This allowed their guests to follow exactly what was happening during each part of the ceremony.

Both the wedding ceremony and reception were held in separate ballrooms at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth. The Grand River Ballroom hosted the ceremony, and the Golden Ballroom was used at the reception – with each event being equally big in numbers. As such, it was a mammoth effort to get both spaces set-up at the same time and especially given the ceremony started early in the morning. It meant we were required to work through the night to ensure everything was ready and on schedule. Fortunately, the Pan Pacific Hotel, its staff as well as its in-house AV Company, Encore, were very accommodating and cooperative – overall, it was very much a joint venture.

Arohi looked stunning and Arvin dashing as he rode into Pan Pacific with his Baraat on our custom-made ‘horse’ for him. As the Pan Pacific is located in the CBD, the Baraat started out in the middle of Adelaide Terrace, before ending in the hotel – you could hear the drumming noise from a mile away! It was definitely a sight to be seen.

We thoroughly enjoyed styling the wedding ceremony and reception for Arvin and Arohi’s special day!

Arohi & Arvin’s Wedding Ceremony and Reception were both designed and styled by Glen Taylor at www.wedstyle.com.au, who is exceptionally experienced with Indian weddings.

Arohi and Arvin share a little bit about themselves…

How did you first meet?
We first crossed paths in high school and reconnected during university, where we first started dating…who knew that after 14 years after we met we would be husband and wife!

Tell us about the proposal
Arvin proposed on a beautiful spring morning at Bradley’s Head in Sydney. Arvin had set up a treasure hunt, which started with a trip down memory lane, and ended with me finding the ring Arvin had hidden!

Our Ceremony
Our wedding ceremony was everything we hoped it would be (and more). It was so special for us to have family and friends come from far and wide for our big day. Wedstyle (our stylists) were able to transform each and every one of our ideas into a beautiful reality. Our mandap (where the ceremony took place) was an absolute standout for us, and a picture perfect backdrop to begin our happily ever after.

Our Reception
The wedding reception was the best way to end our week-long wedding festivities. Wedstyle again did a jaw-dropping job styling the Golden Ballroom, where the event was held. For us, the most memorable part of the night was sharing our first dance with our loved ones. We were especially lucky to have Arohi’s sister and friend perform their first dance song live, which ended with a bang (quite literally) with spectacular indoor fireworks!

What was a fun fact from the wedding?
Arohi was insistent that Arvin come to the ceremony on a horse, as this was a traditional aspect of the Baraat. Being limited by the confines of a CBD-based hotel made this difficult. However, with the help of Wedstyle, Arvin was able to create a custom-made ‘horse’ (being a horse head on a scooter). It was the best Baraat entrance ever!
